In the beginning were the crickets

rising from the primordial om:

slosh of ocean, wind soughing

a drone for the world’s first song

rising from the primordial om

one crooked wing rubs another

to a drone for the world’s first song

the first crickets fell in love

one crooked wing rubs another

and men in suits drop bombs

the first crickets fell in love

how can we call ourselves human

when men in suits drop bombs

there follows unholy silence

how can we call ourselves human

made to sing, our throats now raw

there follows unholy silence

rising from the primordial om

made to sing, our throats now raw

a drone for the world’s first song
