I wonder:

if nature teaches by example.

If we ever listen, take a moment to hear the rustle

the polite screams of caution

reverberating through the leaves of the eucalyptus.

I wonder:

about the destination of the skyscrapers.

One has failed to reach the clouds

ten more built to continue the mission.

But would the clouds suffice?

Would grazing the skies do?

How long before we colonize space,

preaching the gospel of doom?

I wonder:

how many are trampled under the slab of cement.

Do they finally listen to trees fallen to the eucalyptus?

Or do they see the canopy from the ledges of buildings,

swaying back and forth:

a mirror to our greed?

I wonder:

how much must you give to reap a hundredfold.

How far have we strayed from those

who laid down their lives to earn their country,

while we plant a tree that kills our own?

I wonder:

when we started feeding the insatiable.

How many trees later did we awaken?

Did we lift the axe after we were bitten,

or did we finally heed nature’s warning

and find our uncanny example:

The eucalyptus.
